The country filter only lists the countries the dataset has codes for: US, Canada, UK, Australia and Germany. 9,670 sightings (about 12%) have no country at all, even when it is in the city name, like "gisborne (new zealand)". These sightings can't be found with the country filter, and their countries are missing from the list. Every sighting has coordinates, so the country can be looked up from where it was seen. This might be nice to do with AI assistance. ### Tasks - [ ] Find the country for sightings without one from their coordinates, with the Natural Earth country borders (public domain) - [ ] Store it as a country code, like the existing ones - [ ] Add it to the import script, so a new import gets it too - [ ] Add a migration for the existing rows on the VM, as in `docs/ci-cd.md` - [ ] Remove the country note from city names, like "(new zealand)", when the country is filled in - [ ] Update the tests and README ### Done when Every sighting with coordinates has a country, the filter lists every country in the data, and filtering on, for example, New Zealand finds the sightings that only had it in the city name.
