Portfolio project for IDATT2003 - Programming 2

Millions is a stock trading simulation game with a graphical user interface written in JavaFX. The player starts with a given amount of capital and can buy and sell stocks in a simulated market, follow news that affects the stock prices, and watch how the portfolio evolves over time.

Prerequisites

To build and run the application you need:

JDK 25 or newer (with JAVA_HOME configured)
Maven 3.9+
Internet access the first time you build, so Maven can download dependencies

JavaFX does not need to be installed separately, its dependencies are fetched automatically through Maven.

Building the project

Clone the repository and switch to the correct branch:

git clone https://git.ntnu.no/IDATT2003-Gruppe-20/Mappe.git
cd Mappe
git checkout dev

Compile and package the project:

mvn clean package

Running the application

The easiest way to launch the application is via the JavaFX Maven plugin:

mvn javafx:run

This starts the main class no.ntnu.mappe.app.App.

Note: The sector-events in the news feed only work correctly when the appropriate CSV file is selected (sp500_sectors.csv). Selecting a different file (e.g. sp500.csv) means that the sector-related news will not be generated as intended.

Running the tests

mvn test

Generating JavaDoc

mvn javadoc:javadoc

The generated documentation is placed in target/site/apidocs/.
