ttm4205-x-wing-benchmark

This repository is intended to be used to do a comparitive benchmark of certain post-quantum secure key encapsulation mechanisms. The selected mechanisms to compare are:

X-Wing (Main topic of essay)
ML-KEM768-X25519 (TLS-version HPKE)
ML-KEM768 (Non-hybrid version)
X25519 (Non Post-Quantum Secure mechanism)

Methodology of Benchmarking

The methodology of this benchmark is intended to compare the constructions using the same underlying algorithms. This benchmark is NOT intended to utilize the most correct implementations of the underlying mechanisms, as this is considered outside the scope of the TTM4205 technical essay. The different constructions will therefore use a set of common underlying functions, only changing the interaction between the algorithms for comparison.

Libraries

For the X25519 implementation, the python "cryptography" library has been used. For the MLKEM implementation, https://github.com/AntonKueltz/ml-kem has been used, leveraging the C-extension for more realistic performance. It may be necessary to build the ml-kem library locally for replication, which is documented in AntonKueltz's repository.
