Github runner containers

A setup for creating Github runner containers.

None of the content in this repository is to be used to anything other than testing. It was created by me so I could reproduce the containers over and over again while learning how Github actions, runners and the workflow thing work.

Absolutely no consideration has been taken into if I am doing things correctly or is following best practices. The only goal was to get working Github runners as fast as possible.

Fix the fact that anytime you wish to rebuild the container, you have to delete the runner in Github settings for the project and then recreate it in Github settings and rebuild the container with the new token.

Usage

I have set this up to work with Docker compose. However, there are build and run scripts in each image directory which will show you how I used them before switching to compose. If you run the scripts, you need to update them so that the variables have content in them. Note that all the runner images use a base image which need to be built first.

Every time you update the containers running the runners, you need to update the token which it is using. This is because the token times out relatively quickly after creating it in the Github web frontend. This is also true if you update the base images. I have not checked if the runner configuration has arguments which allow me to run the configuration without deleting and recreating the runner in the Github web frontend.

Typical usage for me.

docker compose build base
docker compose build runner-gittesting
docker compose build runner-usersearch
./docker-compose-up-d.sh

The reason for the script to start the containers are that I want to exclude the base service from starting up.
