Summary

  • Connect the client search page to the GraphQL API using Apollo Client.
  • Implement album search with debouncing, loading, empty and error states.
  • Display search results as responsive album cards with album metadata.
  • Add tests for search behaviour, API integration with mocked responses and UI states.
  • Update the UI specification and add a visual design concept.
  • Improve album card readability and responsive layout.

Testing

  • pnpm format:check
  • pnpm lint
  • pnpm typecheck
  • pnpm -r test (41 passing)
  • pnpm build
  • Manual desktop and mobile layout checks using mocked GraphQL responses.

Before merging

The GraphQL integration has been tested with mocked responses, but end-to-end testing against the deployed backend is still pending.

Nice first vertical slice for the client search. The GraphQL operation matches the current schema, and the debounce, loading, empty-result and retry states are all clearly handled and tested.
I also like that filters, sorting and “Load more” are documented as later work rather than being bundled into this PR. Once #45 is merged, we should verify the search against the deployed backend before merging this one. Otherwise, this looks good to me.

Integration testing

Verified the client search against the deployed GraphQL API on the VM using an SSH tunnel.

  • Confirmed album search with real PostgreSQL data.
  • Verified matching results for blue and coltrane.
  • Verified the empty state and Clear search functionality.
  • Confirmed album metadata renders correctly in the browser.

All 41 automated tests, formatting, lint, typecheck and build checks pass.
